The cameras are meant to emulate the style of 2D cartoons, where the camera would only move in two axes. The animations usually involve panning, and plenty of cuts.
Character animations are meant to reflect this style, as deformations are only viewed from the camera's position. Additional details include stretching the character models, very simplistic lip-sync animation, and pose-to-pose keyframing. Characters often hold one pose while their mouth and eyes are moving.
