Score - Easy to Learn, Hard to Master

The "Secret Sauce" to a game like Walrus Run is it's scoring system. You gain points by collecting fish and defeating enemies. You lose points when you take damage. You can also get bonus points at the end of the level if certain criteria are met.

The scoring system also doubles as an accessibility feature. One mechanic that the game is missing, however, is Health Points. You only lose points when you take damage, and the game will still continue even at zero points. This means the player has infinite health points, and cannot "die" or lose the game. However, a lower score (and slower time) means a lower rank at the end of the level. Players can either go at their own pace at the risk of getting a low rank, or play through the levels perfectly to get the best score possible. Players are encouraged to get high ranks, however, as three secret levels are locked behind getting an "A" Rank on all levels. If they are struggling, they can adjust some game options.

The game features a handful of game-modifying options, such as permanent invincibility. Options like these double as accessibility options, and cheats for players who want to try it out.
